Textiles Scotland
I’ve had a busy week schmoozing and networking, drinking the odd glass of champagne and eating a few canapes!
Textiles Scotland (http://www.textilescotland.com/) run a trend forecasting event twice a year. It’s a great day out and a good way to meet people involved in the world of fashion. Tuesday’s event was looking at Autumn Winter 2012/13. Expect to see lots of tweeds, knits and prints on the catwalk with strong colour and touches of Art Deco. We shall see if the predictions come true (they usually do!)
Scottish Academy of Fashion
On Thursday I travelled to Edinburgh for another Textiles Scotland event, a showcase from the Scottish Academy of Fashion (http://www.scottishacademyoffashion.com/). The project is an ambitious collaboration of academia and industry engaged in fashion-related, commercially relevant research. By combining collective strengths they want to create, innovate and assist in the advancement of the Scottish fashion industry.
Inspace Gallery
The event was held at the Inspace Gallery (http://www.inspace.mediascot.org/). Wow, what a venue! I loved it! Aswell as a gallery, this space is also the official home of the Edinburgh Film Festival (http://www.edfilmfest.org.uk/). I’d like to hire it out for an event and I’m drawing up some plans at the moment as to what I’d do there!
Scottish Art Colleges
After a talk from the chairman David Breckenridge we were treated to a catwalk show by fashion graduates from Edinburgh College of Art (http://www.eca.ac.uk/), Heriot-Watt University (http://www.hw.ac.uk/), Robert Gordon University (http://www.rgu.ac.uk/) and Glasgow Caledonian University (http://www.gcu.ac.uk/), and also a collaboration between students and Mackintosh (http://www.mackintosh-uk.com/). The whole evening was brilliant and to round it off we were invited onto the roof terrace for cocktails! It was a beautiful sunny night and Edinburgh looked amazing. And the cherry on the cake was opening up the manifesto of the project to find a photo of my hats in the centre pages!
So after all my partying it’s back to work. Got lots to prepare for in the next few weeks so it’s all systems go!
Speak soon.
Lots of love
